Layer Design Elements & Wall Color

Layer design work.

1) Place furniture and area rugs (remember function, proportions and walkways!)

2) Add wall decor and lighting (remember proportions and focal points)

3) Place accessories such as pillows, throw blankets, baskets, tchotchkes, ect.

4) Choose wall color last, after rugs, tile, floors, cabinets, furniture, etc. It is easy to                           choose a wall color to fit what already exists. It is harder to make furniture, tile, rugs                   fit to a wall color. Hire a colorist. Colorists know more than what is popular, they                         tie everything together to give your home harmony. It will be spectacular and no one                   knows why (a good colorist is the secret ingredient).

Note - Pops of color are fun on pillows, accent walls and in art. Often we are drawn to a 3x3 color sample, but it may not translate to a kitchen backsplash or living room walls.
